Since its inception in 2012, the Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire has committed to the restoration of Bonaire's coral reefs, utilizing pioneering coral nurseries and restoration methods. With a focus on essential priorities, the foundation persistently works on the restoration of various coral species, educates global citizens on contributing efforts, and employs cutting-edge scientific research to refine their restoration practices. Members from Black Coral Inc. have visited Bonaire to learn about these methods with the intention of applying them to other Caribbean regions such as Honduras, Florida, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Bahamas.
Coral reef courses in Bonaire include Interactive, hands-on lessons and exercises aimed at coral restoration; nurturing coral nurseries and honing buoyancy techniques; growing new corals in nurseries to revive declining reefs; transplanting corals back into the reef to support restoration efforts; and learning about coral anatomy, the stressors affecting corals, and techniques for their cultivation, collection, and transplantation.
