Green Focused Pyramid sends Message to the People That Promotes Urban Farming, Democracy, and Freedom!
The centerpiece of the project is a grand stepped pyramid, whose exterior provides a distinctive public space in the center of Ouagadougou, the capital. It affords expansive vistas over the urban expanse and the surrounding terrain, offering a fresh perspective in both a literal and figurative sense. Nestled beneath this edifice are the principal assembly chamber and its related support facilities, along with an extensive sheltered area. This area is protected by the pyramid's latticework and open stairway, destined to become a vibrant public square.
The new structure is a component of a comprehensive masterplan that includes the broader vicinity of the old National Assembly, aiming to be accessible and inclusive for the public. A significant section of the area will be landscaped with indigenous trees and furnished with seating to create a shaded leisure area. Additionally, the plan incorporates commercial storefronts, exhibition areas, and shaded parking for bicycles and cars, establishing a hub of public facilities for the residents of Ouagadougou.
Burkina Faso National Assembly
The design proposal for Burkina Faso's new National Assembly was presented by Kéré Architecture following the 2014 Burkinabè uprising. This event led to the destruction of the previous building and the conclusion of President Blaise Compaoré's tenure, which had persisted since Thomas Sankara's assassination in 1987. The uprising was a pivotal moment in Burkina Faso's political history. Kéré Architecture's design sought to embody the essence of this transformative period.
