Glutathione is a substance made from the amino acids glycine, cysteine, and glutamic acid. It is produced by the liver and involved in many body processes and has been found to protect the body from cancer causing and Hormone damaging toxins hidden in many foods and cosmetics!
While most toxic chemicals do not cause climate change, they do affect how climate change can impact you. These impacts compound as more chemicals are produced or utilized. Very few of the tens of thousands of chemicals on the marketplace are fully tested for health hazards, and details on human exposure to these chemicals are limited by design. What we do know is that two of the most ever present toxins that directly have been proven to activate the cancer gene in humans are endocrine disrupting Phthalates and Parabens!
Black women are exposed to higher levels of endocrine-disrupting chemicals than white women through a range of personal care and consumer products. Phthalates were higher in black and Hispanics than whites and Asians. Parabens were higher in black than other race. This may be partially caused by the direct impact of heat and extreme weather events as well as the indirect effects on ecosystems that lead to changes in food and water supplies.
Phthalates and parabens are chemicals with estrogenic properties that are used in thousands of hair, makeup cosmetics and various personal care products. These chemicals it has been found are directly responsible for increasing the likelihood of getting cancer, lowering life expectancy as well as causing early puberty in girls as young as eight years old and feminization in young boys!

Cosmetics that may contain phthalates and other endocrine disruptors, include nail polishes, hair sprays, aftershave lotions, cleansers, and shampoos. Developmental issues from these chemicals present as social skills difficulties such as emotionally reactive, anxious/depressed, somatic complaints and socially withdrawn, and behavioral problems were found in 24-months old boys (and not girls) with higher prenatal phthalates levels in the mother's urine than in children with lower phthalates exposure. Children whose mothers were exposed to phthalates during pregnancy were more likely to have problems with motor skills, the skills that we use not just in sports but also in everyday activities, and another showed that the children of mothers exposed during pregnancy had problems with language.
The products that have the highest amounts of Phthalates and Estrogenics are black hair care products and personal products marketed to black communities by In 2021 over 100 different cosmetic companies with names known all over the world were identified for having these substances in Black marketed products but rarely in those marketed for Caucasian consumption! Certain hair products commonly used by Black women contained several endocrine disrupting chemicals and in many cases were not listed as ingredients on the boxes! Many products (including petroleum jelly) contain chemicals called xenoestrogens which may increase estrogen problems in the body. Studies have shown that these chemicals may act on hormone receptors in the body and lead to estrogen dominance.
This can cause male children to be less fertile over multiple generations especially if they don't have sufficient glutathione to combat it! Estrogen can become harmful when it is not broken down in the liver and instead gets reabsorbed into the bloodstream, leading to an excess of estrogen. Glutathione helps to detoxify these hormones by conjugating them so they can be excreted from the body. Phthalates harm both male and female reproductive health. Phthalates may induce alterations in puberty, most concerning in males would be the development of testicular dysgenesis syndrome, cancer, and fertility disorders in both males and females. At the hormonal level, phthalates can modify the release of hypothalamic, pituitary, and peripheral hormones.
The chemicals also cause poor semen quality, testicular cancer, undescended testes and hypospadias, a birth defect in boys in which the opening of the urethra is not located at the tip of the penis. In boys with hypospadias, the urethra forms abnormally during weeks 8–14 of pregnancy. The abnormal opening can form anywhere from just below the end of the penis to the scrotum. most children with hypospadias will require treatment — without it, they may experience a shortened penis, urinary and sexual difficulties later in life. For gender identity, persistent exposure to phthalates (LMWP) was associated with undifferentiated type among boys entering puberty earlier (Like girls) and most of the PAE metabolites exposures showed risk ratios for an increase in their femininity. The evidence confirmed that phthalates can reduce fetal androgen levels and that fetal androgen levels are related to sexually-dimorphic behaviors.
Sexual dimorphism is the condition where sexes of the same species exhibit different morphological characteristics. Boys may tend to be smaller and more feminine while girls affected may present as more masculine in feature and behavior. Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are a diverse group of chemical compounds found in various consumer products (such as makeup, lotion, hair care products, shaving creams, toothpaste, suntan lotions, personal lubricant, and some deodorants), industrial processes, and environmental contaminants. These substances possess the ability to interfere with the endocrine system Exposure to EDCs can disrupt the hormonal environment and influence the development of gender identity.
The most common endocrine disruptors are industrial solvents/lubricants and their byproducts polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs), dioxins, plastics like bisphenol A also known as (BPA), plasticizers (phthalates), pesticides methoxychlor, chlorpyrifos, dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), fungicides (vinclozolin), and pharmaceutical agents diethylstilbestrol (DES).
THE ANSWER GLUTATHIONE
Glutathione (GSH) is the most abundant non-protein thiol present in human tissue. A millimolar is 1/1000th of a Molar (M) which is the primary unit of concentration in chemistry, representing a concentration of 1 mole per liter concentrations. As an important intracellular antioxidant, Glutathione acts as a regulator of cellular redox state protecting cells from damage caused by lipid peroxides, reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, and xenobiotics which are chemical substances that are foreign to animal life and thus includes plant constituents, drugs, pesticides, cosmetics, flavorings, fragrances, food additives, industrial chemicals and environmental pollutants. Eating sulfur rich foods may increase glutathione levels in the body. Sulfur occurs in several amino acids, two of which — methionine and cysteine — are precursors for glutathione and therefore contribute to its synthesis.

The human body produces glutathione, but there are also dietary sources. Spinach, avocados, asparagus and okra are some of the richest dietary sources. Allium vegetables, including garlic, shallots and onions, also boost glutathione levels in the body naturally — likely due to their sulfur-containing compounds.
