Turn Off the Power and unplug the Air Conditioner.
Open Up the AC Unit.
Clean the Air Conditioner Evaporator Coils. use the vacuum with the soft brush attachment, and carefully vacuum out any dust balls or other stuff you see in the unit. Then, mix together your water and two drops of dish detergent. Next, spray this inside the machine and wipe the areas down.
Clean the AC Drain Pan.
Clear the Air Conditioner Drain If It Is Plugged. You can use bleach as an excellent choice to clean a window air conditioner since it destroys mold.
Close the AC Access Panel.
Disconnect and Remove AC Grille.
Remove Debris in the Air Conditioner.
If you decide not to buy a new filter…Mix up a one-to-one solution of vinegar and water, and add it to a spray bottle. Spray both sides of the filter, and give it 10 minutes for the solution to kill bacteria. Rinse the filter under running water before continuing.
AC filters need to air dry, and it can take several hours to become completely free of moisture. To aid in the process, you can put newspapers on the ground underneath the filter. Lean the filter up against the wall on top of the newspapers. Once a minimum of three hours have passed, you can re-install the filter in your air conditioning unit. Do this once a year and spray the condenser coils with a vent cleaner every 6 months.
