The Seas Are "Incredibly Hot"

Here's what we understand: Human-induced climate change is the culprit. Driven by greed, humans persist in burning fossil fuels, emitting heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere, with the majority of this excess heat being absorbed by the oceans. Consequently, ocean temperatures have been on a consistent upward trend for years. This week, the average daily global sea surface temperature surpassed the 2016 record, as reported by the EU's climate change service Copernicus, reaching 20.96°C (69.73°F), which is significantly higher than the average.

In NOAA's 175-year record, June 2024 stands out as the hottest June ever recorded globally. The average global surface temperature for June was 1.22°C (2.20°F) higher than the 20th-century average of 15.5°C (59.9°F). This surpasses the previous June record set last year by 0.15°C (0.27°F), marking the 13th consecutive month of setting record-high global temperatures.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis told state residents in the path of Milton that "time is running out" before landfall, likely as a Category 5 storm. The National Weather Service in Tampa warned Tuesday that if Milton stays on course, it would be “the most powerful hurricane to hit Tampa Bay in over 175 years.” It's a taste of a future when simultaneous disasters grow more common, according to the latest global report on climate science. Hurricanes, wildfires and torrential rain that triggers flooding are all amplified by heat, and the planet is getting hotter.

Just this year — between January and July of 2024 — there were 19 billion-dollar events, tied for the fourth-highest total in a calendar year since 1980, and with five months still remaining in the year. Ironically al people have to do is divest from big oil embrace renewable energy and stop believing the politicians supported by big oil and Petro pharmaceutical interests instead of the health of the planet. Recycling won't do it! Supporting organizations like Black Coral Inc helps but even that is minimal the answer lies in a global cultural change away from fossil fuels!

A study published in September found that a vast majority of Earth’s remaining fossil fuels must remain underground by 2050 to avoid the worst consequences of climate change, including worsening extreme weather, irreversible ecosystem shifts, loss of life as well as economic hardship. A new study shows that even if we ended fossil fuel use today, we have already exceeded safe limits. We have already failed the Paris Agreement, globally we are now headed to a 2 degree rise in global temperatures because nations talked the talk but for the most part refused to give up oil profits in exchange for the lives of their countrymen.

The data follows the hottest 12 months ever recorded, and a year marked by extreme weather events intensified by the climate crisis. This includes fires in Hawaii, floods in Northern Africa, and storms in the Mediterranean, all resulting in loss of life. Scientists are sounding the alarm as temperature data surpass their forecasts.

Recent reports assessing the Earth's climate health and human efforts to counteract it indicate that the planet is on a trajectory towards perilous warming levels, with insufficient measures in place to mitigate or adapt to the consequences. A UN report from last week revealed that, based on current national climate strategies, the pollution contributing to global warming in 2030 is projected to be 9% greater than in 2010.
